Dr Qiao joined the School of Chemical Engineering of the University of Adelaide (UoA) in March 2012 as a professor (the inaugural Chair of Nanotechnology). He is an Australian Laureate Fellow. His research expertise is in nanomaterials and nanoporous materials for drug/gene/RNA delivery and new energy technologies (electrocatalysis, photocatalysis, batteries, fule cell, supercapacitors). He has co-authored more than 300 papers in refereed journals, including Nature, Nature Energy, Nature Communications, Angew Chem Int Ed, J. Am. Chem. Soc, Advanced Materials with him as a corresponding or joint corresponding author (over 23,000 citation times, h-index: 77). He has filed three patents on novel nanomaterials and attracted more than 11 million dollars in research grants from industrial partners and Australian Research Council (ARC). In recognition of his achievements in research, he was honoured with a prestigious ExxonMobil Award (2016), ARC Discovery Outstanding Researcher Award (DORA, 2013), a Emerging Researcher Award (2013, ENFL Division of the American Chemical Society) and a UQ Foundation Research Excellence Award (2008). He has also been awarded an ARC ARF Fellowship, an ARC APD Fellowship and an inaugural UQ Mid-Career Research Fellowship.Dr Qiao is currently an Honorary Professor at The University of Queensland and is appointed to ARC College of Experts. He is an Associate Editor of Journal of Materials Chemistry A, a Fellow of Institution of Chemical Engineers (FIChemE), Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) and Royal Australian Chemical Institute Chartered Chemist (FRACI CChem). Dr Qiao is a Thomson Reuters Highly Cited Scientist.

Professor Dr Hazizan Md Akil was born in Temerloh, Pahang on 1st July 1971. He received his early education at Sekolah Kebangsaan Bohor Baru, Temerloh, Pahang and his secondary education at Sekolah Menengah Sultan Abu Bakar, Kuantan, and Pahang. In 1993 he obtained his dual Diplomas in Rubber and Plastics Technology (UiTM) and Diploma in Natural Rubber Processing (RRIM). 3 years later, in 1996 he obtained his B.Eng. (Hons) in Polymer Engineering from the University of North London, United Kingdom. Subsequently, he obtained his PhD in Composites Materials (with a focus on Sandwich structure) from the University of Liverpool, UK, in 2002. Upon his return to Malaysia, he joined Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) as a lecturer in the School of Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2008 and a full Professor in 2012. Prof Hazizan is currently a Professor at USM’s School of Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering. Widely regarded as an authority in the study of polymer composites research with special emphasis on natural fibre reinforced composites and impact mechanics, Prof Hazizan’s expertise is evident through a body of work that covers a period of 15 years which includes extensive and in-depth research on low velocity impact response of composites materials and sandwich structure and Polymer Nanocomposites. His aptitude for high quality research of international standing has been further supported by his more than 205 international journal publications with a total citation of 3983 times and an h-index of 29. Prof Hazizan has also successfully supervised 18 PhD and 35 MSc students and is currently supervising 5 PhD students. Prof Hazizan has been honored with local and international awards for his achievements including Geneva Exhibition, ITEX, MTE, PENCIPTA and i-ENVEX. Prof Hazizan was also named as one of the Top Research Scientists in Malaysia (TRSM 2014) by Academy of Sciences Malaysia. He has also been awarded as one of the Malaysia’s Rising Stars in 2015. He has been regularly invited to present his research findings at various international and national conferences and has strong international collaboration and linkages.

Prof Zulkifli Ahmad joined School of Material and Mineral Resources, USM in 2006. His current research interest is in synthesizing new polymeric material for electronic applications. He is actively engaged with industrial collaborations and initiated the development of polysiloxane in Malaysia. He has produced about 80 ISI journal publications and contributed several book chapters regarding polymers synthesis and polymer in electronic. He has attended several local and international conferences as invited speaker. He was a visiting lecturer at School of Metallurgy and Material, University of Birmingham,UK (Dec 2012 – Aug 2013) and a recipent of ACU Titular Fellowship at Swansea University, UK. Currently he is the Programe Chairman for Polymer section at School of Material and Mineral Resources, USM.
